Created in September 2024, it’s the first piece in which I combined coil building with wild clay terra sigillata. The surface motifs are rooted in my study of Bassa Kwomo (Central Nigeria) pottery but reinterpreted through my Earth Tone decorating slips.

This vessel represents the convergence of techniques and materials gathered over the past few years—from time spent with Zulu potter Jabulile Nala to a residency in New Mexico, where I engaged with the oldest ceramic traditions in North America. Its rounded bottom is a nod to a shared design language found in both Indigenous African and American pots. A glossy aqua glaze lines the neck, while the rest remains raw. More than a functional object, this piece is a sculptural tribute to Indigenous knowledge and the abundance of the Earth.

13” diameter, 10” tall

This piece ships via UPS.
